THE MGM CHANNEL TO LAUNCH ON SKY ITALIA
Carriage Agreement Marks MGM Channel's Debut in Italy Adding Millions of New Subscribers to MGM's Expanding International Channel Business
Milan, Italy and Los Angeles, May 20, 2008 --- MGM Networks, a division of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studio Inc. (MGM) has signed an agreement with News Corp’s SKY Italia, one of Europe’s largest subscriptions television platforms and the leading pay television service in Italy, to launch a local language version of the MGM Channel beginning June 1st.
The deal marks the MGM channel’s debut in Italy. The announcement was made today by Bruce Tuchman, Executive Vice President, MGM Networks.
“This deal represents a significant milestone in our success across Europe. Italy is one of the key European markets that remained untapped for us, and now with this deal, we add an incredible jewel to our crown of channels in Europe”, said Tuchman. “Following our first launch on the continent in 2002, customized MGM channels now will reach millions of subscribers across more than 30 European countries, in addition to the many millions of subscribers we have across Latin-America, Africa, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.”
The MGM channel will be included in SKY Italia’s Cinema package, which reaches the vast majority of SKY Italia’s subscribers. Dubbed into Italian, The MGM channel will feature a wide selection of titles from the MGM movie catalog, the world’s largest modern film library, including titles from such franchises as Rocky and Pink Panther, and films such us Thelma & Louise, Annie Hall, New York New York, Paths of Glory, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
