With the Olympic Games in London, all eyes are on the British island this month. But Great Britain has much more to offer besides shelter for hundreds of athletes and their fans. To get an idea what else is real British, MGM Channel offers you a variety of films to experience Britain at its very best. So tune in every Thursday at 20:00 CET and you will find out that Britain is great!

One of Great Britain’s most famous citizens was definitely The Beatles. They have not only been one of the most commercially successful but also critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music. The biographical music drama
In His Life: The John Lennon Story offers you a very personal and revealing look into the early life of pop legend John Lennon, one of the founding members of the band. Let the movie guide you through the human relationships and musical influences that profoundly shaped Lennon’s life and eventually his music. The following movie offers you the opportunity to witness John Lennon’s acting talent in the war comedy How I Won The War.

When you think about Great Britain, there is one legend that will never be forgotten: Robin Hood, the heroic outlaw of English folklore who is known for "stealing from the rich and giving to the poor". MGM Channel’s THEME NIGHT offers you the chance to follow the charismatic hero in even two movies.
Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves Kevin Costner impersonates Robin of Locksley who returns to England after some time in prison. Back home he has to find out that his father has been murdered by the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman) and Robin vows to avenge his death. Hiding in the Forest of Sherwood he joins a band of exiled villagers and becomes their courageous leader.
The Zany Adventures Of Robin Hood is a hilarious comedy in which Robin Hood (George Segal), his Merry Men and Lady Marian (Morgan Fairchild) must raise enough money to free their good king, Richard the Lionhearted (Robert Hardy) who is being held for ransom by the Duke of Austria.

Another famous character that is inevitably related to Great Britain certainly is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s investigator Sherlock Holmes. The consulting detective is known for his wise logical reasoning and his use of forensic science skills to solve any mysterious case. In the fantastic British comedy
The Hound Of The Baskervilles Sherlock Holmes (Peter Cook) sends his faithful partner Dr. Watson to take on a case involving a demonic dog. The fruitless search for the errant canine leads to some merriment at Watson's expense, while Holmes is busy visiting his mother. The talented comedian Dudley Moore does not only impersonate the keen Dr. Watson but also the mother of Sherlock Holmes herself. Definitely a must-see!

A very interesting view into movie business culture offers the highly entertaining documentary
100 Films And A Funeral which is inspired by Michael Kuhn's memoir of the same title. This feature documentary by filmmaker Michael McNamara chronicles the rise and fall of the company that produced the films "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "The Usual Suspects" and "Trainspotting." Do not miss this informative channel premiere on the MGM Channel.

There are even a lot more things worth knowing about Great Britain, so tune in on Thursdays in August and let MGM Channel‘s THEME NIGHT movie collection bring you closer to this wonderful island, its culture and its people. There will only be one thing left to say: GREAT, BRITAIN!
