MGM Oscar® Week
On Sunday 26 one of the most watched award shows in the world is taking place for the 84th time. Leading you to this year’s spectacular event, MGM Channel offers you a wide array of carefully selected movies that were either nominated or that were lucky enough to receive the most important award in the film business – the Oscar®.
Celebrate from your home television and get entertained with award winning movies all week long including the adventurous action drama The Last Of The Mohicans starring Daniel Day-Lewis that won the award for its outstanding spherical sound. Maximilian Schell received the Oscar® for best actor in the historical drama Judgement At Nuremburg and Shaft was rewarded for its impressive soundtrack. Watch In The Heat Of The Night - the best movie of the year in 1967. Be inspired by the award winning makeup in Beetlejuice and get lost in lavish costumes and contemporary scenery in The Madness Of King George. Those are of course only a few movies of the weeklong Oscar® special.
But there are not only winners at the Oscars®. Even when a nominee cannot take the golden statue home at the end of the night - it is also a huge honor to be nominated for the highly appreciated movie award as a nomination is an acknowledgment that they are one of the best in the business. See for yourself that the so called “lucky losers” are no losers after all...
During the MGM Oscar® Week MGM Channel presents you the following nominees that unfortunately missed out at the award show. Starting with Wyatt Earp that was nominated for its outstanding cinematography, followed by Witness For The Prosecution which was nominated in six different categories including best picture and best director for Billy Wilder.
The Color Purple will be remembered as the biggest “loser” of them all, being nominated in - believe it or not - eleven categories and not taking home one single award.
Also see A Dry White Season with Marlon Brando who has been nominated as best actor in a supporting role. Make sure you do not miss Man Of La Mancha, Wargames, Four Days In November and Woody Allen’s Alice.
And the Oscar® goes to… tune in every day during the MGM Oscar ® Week and watch award winning movies.
