HOLLYWOOD CLASSICS: EUROPEAN DIVAS
MGM’s HOLLYWOOD CLASSICS on Wednesday nights in August capture the passion and fascination of EUROPEAN DIVAS. Their exotic screen presence and glamorous appeal attracted Hollywood ever since.
There was a time in Hollywood film making when directors were looking for new, fresh and different talent for their movies. Much too long there have only been typical blond blue eyed American beauties on the screen. The viewers were longing for something new and exotic that they have not already seen too many times before. So the logical consequence was to look over the big pond and import some of the uprising stars of European cinema.
Every Wednesday at primetime you have to chance to take a look at one of those European divas and be both convinced and enchanted by their talent and beauty.
Sophia Loren - Italy
Let Sophia Loren bewitch you with her divine touch in Man Of La Mancha as the simple whore Aldonza who turns into the noble woman Dulcinea – but only in Don Quixote’s imagination. And be impressed by her strong performance next to John Wayne in Legend Of The Lost.
Jeanne Moreau - France
See Jeanne Moreau and her incredible intense portrayal of a young woman on her vendetta quest in the mystery drama The Bride Wore Black.
Catherine Deneuve - France
Catherine Deneuve’s beauty and passion make a man (Jean-Paul Belmondo) forget everything – even that she is not the woman who he is supposed to get married to. In Mississippi Mermaid Deneuve has an easy way as a marriage swindler.
Claudia Cardinale - Italy
In The Professionals Claudia Cardinale has been kidnapped by Mexican bandits and four adventurers are hired to bring her save back home. But can a feisty woman like her be even kidnapped in the first place? ...
Gina Lollobrigida - Italy
In Woman Of Straw Gina Lollobrigida is the attractive Italian nurse Maria who stands in-between her patient, the tyrannical and ailing tycoon Charles Richmond and Charles' nephew Anthony (Sean Connery), who soon plots ways to gain control over his uncle's fortune. Also do not miss her performance as frivolous, highly amoral woman in That Splendid November.
Vanessa Redgrave - England
See the fabulous Vanessa Redgrave next to her later real life husband Franco Nero in the art- house shocker A Quiet Place In The Country.
